Year 9 Options Day
Aims & Objectives
This is a day to help Year 9 students understand the longer-term career and training implications of the important decisions they make when choosing GCSE options. The day introduces students to the issues, encouraging them to make informed, long-sighted decisions, with a greater awareness of how these will affect their future plans. The day works most effectively when scheduled to coincide closely with the time when these decisions are being made, and the publication of the school's options booklet.
Description of Activity
The NEBP recruits volunteer facilitators from the world of work and education. This will typically include people from the NHS, the borough, a local university or college of further education and a selection of private sector companies to make sure that a good range of local employment sectors are represented. These facilitators engage students in interactive activities, which help to explain how certain GCSE subjects are used in later working life and to understand the range of job roles to which the various subjects can be applied. The seminars are backed up by theatre performances, which keep students engaged with the issues in an entertaining and informative way.
What we Need
If your business or organisation has a programme we could use at such an event the NEBP is more than happy to listen to your offers. The NEBP is always on the lookout for projects that will engage youngsters in learning more about their options in working life.
