Stratford City is an ambitious regeneration project in the heart of Newham. Stratford is an area that has undergone considerable change in the last 100 years evolving from an industrial heartland to a hub for retail and leisure by 2012.

This brief was linked to Year 3 geography that saw students interacting with their local area. Young people looked at Stratford in the past, present and future using a combination of photographs, visits and images. The students used photography to help them explore Stratford in the past and the present, this was supplemented with a trip to the Estorick Collection where they learnt about Futurism. The final murals had a futurist theme and included elements of photography and drawing.

The completed murals were displayed in the school hall as a celebration of the students achievement.

This resource is suitable to be used in KS1 / KS2 and covered Art & Design, Geography, History, Literacy, Speaking & Listening & PHSCE.
