Stratford City is an ambitious regeneration project in the heart of Newham. The developers of Stratford City are keen to build strong links with the community and to incorporate its voice into their plans.
The brief for students was to design and make their ideal cities. The project had a strong link with Lend Lease, the developers of the Athletes Village, who introduced the project and attended the final presentation. Additional outside support was provided with visits from architects and planners as well as workshops with local artists.
Young people were able to develop their ideas and create 3D models of buildings that they would like in their ideal city. Children worked together to combine their work to create complete cities.
The project was documented by a smaller group from the cohort who created a short film. This resource is suitable to be used in KS1 and covered Art, Design, Speaking & Listening, Citizenship and Numeracy. The resource could be adapted to different age groups.
